Community Food and Health (Scotland) hosted a national networking conference in October 2014. The aim of the conference was to provide a valuable day for those involved in tackling health inequalities through community food activity. The conference report can be accessed here.

CFHS’s new publication about community food initiatives that are working to reduce food poverty through delivering a range of services is now available online. Food Commission appointed
The Scottish Government has completed the appointment of a Food Commission to advise Ministers on progress towards becoming a ‘Good Food Nation’. The 16 person commission’s first meeting is scheduled for March 18th with the establishment of a network of local champions already identified as an early task.

Sainsbury’s Scottish Community Grant Fund open
Sainsbury’s Community Grant Fund closes on 28 February. The Fund uses proceeds from the sale of 5p single use carrier bags to provide grants of up £500 to support work which fits with Sainsbury’s core values of food, family, kids and health and also arts, environment and social welfare.

Education Scotland ‘Food for Thought’ Fund Open
The Food for Thought Fund closes on 29 March. Local authority schools and nurseries can apply for up to £3000 to improve learning and teaching within food education in Curriculum for Excellence.

Community retailing roundtable
In September, CFHS held a roundtable meeting to discuss the future of community retailing, especially community-run food co-ops, fruit stalls and barras. Representatives from five community food initiatives that support food co-ops took part.
