In late October, the Scottish Government published its consultation analysis on the Ending the need for food banks draft plan. It received over 400 responses to the consultation that took place late 2021 and early 2022. Overall, respondents agreed with the approaches the draft plan has to ensure cash first approaches and pathways out of poverty are used, although there were concerns about gaps in provision and ensuring these approaches are adequate. Respondents had differing views about the use of surplus food, ensuring dignity or had additional concerns such as access to affordable food in rural areas or the challenge of the complexity of people’s needs.
