Scottish emergency food aid study
The Poverty Alliance recently completed a study into emergency food aid and developed a very useful website based on its conclusions.
Public Health Review – responses required by 12 March
An expert group has been established by the Scottish Government to review public health in Scotland, “to build on the progress made to tackle health inequalities”. Update: here is the report of this review

CFHS conference report
Community Food and Health (Scotland) hosted a national networking conference in October 2014. The aim of the conference was to provide a valuable day for those involved in tackling health inequalities through community food activity. The conference report can be accessed here.
Food Plus in Practice
CFHS’s new publication about community food initiatives that are working to reduce food poverty through delivering a range of services is now available online. The publication includes examples of eight community food initiatives that are offering emergency food aid and more. View Food Plus in Practice.
Food Commission appointed
The Scottish Government has completed the appointment of a Food Commission to advise Ministers on progress towards becoming a ‘Good Food Nation’. The 16 person commission’s first meeting is scheduled for March 18th with the establishment of a network of local champions already identified as an early task.
Sainsbury’s Scottish Community Grant Fund open
Sainsbury’s Community Grant Fund closes on 28 February. The Fund uses proceeds from the sale of 5p single use carrier bags to provide grants of up £500 to support work which fits with Sainsbury’s core values of food, family, kids and health and also arts, environment and social welfare.
Education Scotland ‘Food for Thought’ Fund Open
The Food for Thought Fund closes on 29 March. Local authority schools and nurseries can apply for up to £3000 to improve learning and teaching within food education in Curriculum for Excellence.
Community Food Fund – closing date 26 March
The Fund welcomes applications from community food initiatives that want to create or enhance a food and drink network, group or community, a food trail, or local food and drink event(s). Groups can apply for up to £25,000. Applicants must show how they would benefit local food and drink producers. More details can be found …
