SUMMARY:Tackling food poverty in Scotland
DESCRIPTION:NHS Health Scotland defines food poverty as ‘the inability to acquire or consume an adequate or sufficient quality of food in socially acceptable ways\, or the uncertainty that one will be able to do so’. With use of food banks increasing by 13% in the past six months compared to this time last year\, the issue of food poverty is becoming more prevalent. \nA new briefing by NHS Health Scotland details the impact that food poverty can have on both physical and psychological wellbeing. Supported by the Scottish Government’s 2016 report ‘Dignity: Ending Hunger Together in Scotland‘\, and the Fair Food Transformation Fund Scotland will invest £1 million over the next two years to support those who experience food insecurity. \nJoin Holyrood on 27 March to examine how your organisation can alleviate people from the complexities associated with food poverty and address the challenges.

DESCRIPTION:CFHS\, Senscot and Partnership for Procurement are running two sessions on for community food social enterprises and community retailers.  The morning session will discuss issues currently being experienced by Community Food social enterprises and agree future actions/supports in relation to sustainability and growth (funding\, collaboration and enterprise ). \nThe afternoon will be a ‘sharing good practice’ session for community retailers.   More details and booking information coming soon. SUMMARY:Tackling food insecurity in Lanarkshire: what can we learn from the Food Poverty Renewal Gateway
DESCRIPTION:First networking event from A Menu for Change. \nNorth Lanarkshire Council has responded to the increasing numbers of people turning to food banks by launching the Food Poverty Referral Gateway to ensure people get their full entitlement to crisis grants from the Scottish Welfare Fund before they turn to food banks for help. \nThis workshop will look at the challenges and successes of the Referral Gateway and its potential to be replicated in other areas.
